Organisations that fight against smoking addiction in France

  • Droits des non-fumeurs "Rights of the non-smoker" is an association which fights for respect of the law in France.

  • Droit à l'air pur "The right for clean air" is an association which fights against the acceptance of smoking in public places.

Tobacco is a drug like others, but its major difference is to contaminate the environment. Cigarettes attack the freedom of those who do not wish to breathe this drug.

It is probably impossible to stop people from taking drugs but other people should not suffer from them. Tobacco must only effect its consumer and nobody else.

Jean Nicot, French Ambassador in Lisbon, introduced tobaco to France, because of its beneficial virtues, tobacco became known as Nicotiana Tabacum and later nicotine. In the beginning, tobacco contained...just tobacco. Difficult to believe, but it is true!

Today more than 600 additives are officially authorised, and each country has its own list and its maximum percentage for each! This does not have anything to do with tobacco anymore - it has become an elaborate drug.

Who remembers today a dictionary published by Jean Nicot in 1606? Curiously, Jean Nicot does not mention tobacco in it. The Hôtel Alouette has a modern edition of the dictionary you can borrow if you like.
